What’s Considered Scrap Metal?
Scrap metal comes in many shapes, sizes, and compositions, so what’s considered scrap metal? Well, lots of metal items! Scrap metal could be an old washing machine, rusted tools, batteries, an old tin shed, farm equipment and machinery. Essentially, anything primarily made of common metals, such as steel, copper, aluminum, tin, and brass, could be considered scrap metal. Now, the value of that scrap metal will hinge on the quality, type, and weight of the metal. Still, at the end of the day, it’s definitely worth salvaging for a few extra bucks in your pocket!

The On-Site Cleanup Process
When it comes specifically to McSteel Salvage & Cleanup’s on-site scrap metal cleanup services, it’s important to note that we only offer pickups for sites with enough metal to fill one of our 53-foot trailers. Otherwise, we ask that you bring your metal to our Wainwright or High Prairie locations.
Once you’ve scheduled your on-site scrap metal clean up with McSteel, the process will proceed as follows:
- First, we assess the area to identify potential hazards, additional metals, or challenges.
- Then, we unload the necessary equipment (typically shears, excavators, and a large magnet).
- Next, our crew will remove the scrap metal from your property. This step may involve digging old equipment out of the dirt or dismantling structures to fit our trailers.
- Once your site is cleaned up, we will carefully weigh each scrap metal truckload to ensure your payout’s accuracy.
- Then, our team will do one final sweep of the area to ensure no small materials are left over.
- Finally, we finish the job by back blading the area and mailing you a cheque for the total value of your scrap metal!
With McSteel, You’ll Always Get a Fair Deal
At McSteel, we aren’t in the business of swindling our customers. That’s why we are transparent and honest in our dealings. Our scrap prices are based on the current market rates, with monthly and weekly updates. We understand that far too many metal salvagers cut unfair deals with their customers. But with our competitive service rates and integrity, we ensure your payout is always fair.
